The rings have been refined for ease of production and are extremely strong. The electronics are now designed, fitted and working. We're incredibly proud to have been selected, and will use the money to help speed up the prototyping and iteration of the rings, in time for trialling. (Literally hopping around the studio here) 08-11-2012 Newest prototype Escape Ring now ready for testing Working with an excellent group of engineers in Peckham, the last couple of months have seen the development of a trial-ready Escape Ring prototype. The devices are now made of hard-wearing, strong materials and are sealed to be used at depth. Next step - time to take them on a trawling trip! 04/11/2012 SafetyNet wins UK round of the James Dyson Award 2012! We are very excited to announce that SafetyNet has been selected by the James Dyson Foundation as the winner of the UK round of the JDAs. The prize for this round is £1,000 and a JDA certificate, with the stakes and prize money being upped to £10,000 in the global finals. The next round of results are announced in October so fingers crossed and good luck to all the other competitors! It's made from an old table, some scraps of wood that were lying around and an arduino-controlled linear actuator that was bought for purpose. During the conversation the minister was shown some of the Escape Ring prototypes and was enthusiastic about the project, offering to help its progression where possible. 27/06/2012 SafetyNet meets Kate Hoey MP at Portcullis House SNT was invited to meet Kate by Daniel Butler, of Virgin Media Pioneers, to explain a little more about the project, its origins and its goals. It was great to meet Ms Hoey, who has offered to help set up a meeting with Richard Benyon MP, the UK Fisheries Minister. 12/06/2012 Pitch2Rich video released The video shows some of what happened at the Pitch2Rich event at Sir Richard Branson's Oxford home. 08/06/2012 New prototype parts arrive Today saw the arrival of the first machined plastic parts for the Escape Ring. The judges felt "although this project was still in the very early stage it was one of the most important ideas the world is going to see." SafetyNet Technologies came 2nd in the Virgin Media Pioneers' Pitch2Rich competition, earning the company the chance to pitch to Mr. Branson at his home in Oxford. The company is also in the running for a share of £5,000 to help support it in its future endeavours. 10/05/2012 New material prototype finished! After hours in the London Hackspace using their lathe and mill a true-material prototype Escape Ring (in classy aluminium and nylon) has been created. It is the correct size and is fitted with all the electronics required for the battery powered ring.
